PRO TIP If you have access to the attic, then you can vent a ceiling mounted exhaust fan through either a gable wall or the roof. Letting the fan exhaust into an open attic will cause moisture buildup on the underside of the roof. Avoid venting through a soffit vent or ridge vent. The warm air will exhaust out the duct and enter back into the attic through the soffit vent or ridge vent. Make sure the bathroom fan you choose is ducted properly.
Fans should be vented to the outside, not to the attic or crawlspace. If the duct work isn’t accessible through the attic, vent the fan through an outside wall of the house.
An insulated duct will help prevent condensation when the warm air from the bathroom meets the cold duct in the attic.
Choosing the Right Bathroom Exhaust Fan
A bathroom 50 square feet or smaller needs a 50-CFM fan.
For bathrooms between 50 and 100 square feet, estimate approximately 1 CFM per square foot.
If your bathroom is larger than 100 square feet, tally the CFM requirements for the individual fixtures to estimate your needs. Plan for 50 CFM for each toilet, tub and shower and add 100 CFM for a jetted tub.
If your bathroom is smaller than 50 square feet, a 50-CFM fan will work.
Regardless of the room size, a long run of duct work connecting the fan to the outside increases the CFM requirements, particularly if there are bends in the run.
Note that if your bathroom has an enclosed toilet area, the space needs its own fan.
While the fan’s CFM should be rated for the square footage of the room, it’s a good idea to size the fan up a little. For example, get a 70-CFM fan for a room that’s 65 square feet.
If the light or the fan do not work, please make sure that the cables to the light and fan are properly connected.
If you’re replacing a fan, take note of the dimensions of the cutout for your existing fan so you can buy one that fits.
Check the size of the exhaust port on the fan to make sure it fits your duct work.
OREiN Bath Fan will take a few seconds to start up, which is normal. The product with DC Motor have a slow start and slow stop mechanism in order to protect the motor better. Just like a car, it takes time to reach the top speed.
Let the exhaust fan run for 20 minutes after someone showers to ensure the proper amount of ventilation.
To prevent the insulation from sliding down the duct, wrap the connections a few times with HVAC tape.
That it is common practice in heating and ventilation systems using sheet metal ductwork and fittings or flexible duct work tubing to use duct tape or aluminum tape to ensure air tight seals and improve efficiency.

This fan was an easy install. It is very quiet. The light is as bright as advertised. I would recommend this product.Be sure and purchase a new 4” flex hose to attach to the unit for proper air flow in the event your builder just blew insulation over the top of the fan as mine did.

Easy to install, spent more time removing the old unit and then determining the best way to re-install the new unit. Once figured out, it was a pretty easy install. The unit is super quiet and works better than its predecessor. I'd have hvac tape or duct tape handy to seal around the vent. I would recommend wearing gloves when handling the metal housing as the sharp corners will cut your skin if you grasp it just the wrong way.
