It astounds me the level of self importance some people are disillusioned with, particularly with the paranoia of chinese espionage. The app is safe, it had to go through a very particular process to even be added to the various app stores. The bulbs function fine, but even if you are too paranoid to use the app, you can still get the lights working just fine.

Like many people I find installing smart bulbs either really easy or incredibly frustrating. I am happy to share that this was the easiest install EVER. First thing I did was to carefully read the directions. That took about 10 seconds. The app was easily downloaded. Then I made sure that my wi-fi was set to 2.4 , I screwed in the light bulb and turned it on. The bulb flashed some colors then turned to white. Followed the flow chart on the app, and it was installed in a few seconds. I use Alexa and again it was very easy to install there too. No frustrated calls to tech support. If this is your first smart bulb, it is an excellent one to try.

I like the bulbs themselves. They are bright, good saturation of color, and make for an easy way to change the mood of a room.
The app works, but it’s difficult to get everything connected and programmed. Perhaps difficult isn’t the right word…more like tedious and sometimes frustrating. But now that they are setup…all good.

These bulbs are really nice. I was excited to get some smart bulbs that had the new Matter standard so I could use them with HomeKit. I put them in my ceiling fan and scanned the QR codes in the paperwork to add them to HomeKit. They were added to my home without any issues, until I started to change colors. When I would use Siri to change the color to green for example, every single time one of the bulbs wouldn't change. And every time it was a different bulb, strangely. I was getting annoyed with this so I downloaded the AiDot app and connected them directly to WiFi. Using the app you can add a skill to Alexa to control them. Using Alexa, these are prefect. The respond immediately, and importantly, the all 4 change color now. This is fine anyway since I have Echo Dots all around the house, not HomePods, but I was excited to be able to use my Apple Watch to control them. If you're going to buy these, don't expect Matter to be perfect, this standard is very new.

I'd had a pair of smart (white) bulbs I control with Amazon Alexa, both on (good morning/night) auto routines and via voice in a room I use as a home theater. Even at their lowest brightness they'd still interfered with the projection screen as they are directly opposite it. Using RGB bulbs helps with this since low brightness with colors like red do not effect the projection as much.
Installation of these were as easy as any other smart bulbs I have, plug them in, already have or install the smart app on my iPhone, register the bulbs to the app, give Amazon Alexa permission to access the app, then in my case I opened up the Alexa app and assigned the two bulbs to a group and Alexa routines such as "Good Night".
It's nice to be able to now change not only the brightness but colors as well by voice. I gave them unique names so I could control them separately if I wanted to, but most of the time I want them to be a synced pair.

I have quite a few smart bulbs, and switches, and outlets, and echoes around my house. This is my first experience with 'Matter' smart lights. First impression - these are GREAT!
My 'smart home' is 100% Alexa driven and controlled. That being said, this review is based totally on how these bulbs work with Alexa. One of the BIG advantages of matter smart devices, is that the same device will work on most all of the major platforms. That is good for all of us, because if everyone were to hop on board, you could buy any matter-based device no matter what system you are on. That way, there won't be some cool thing you wanted, but can't get because it doesn't work on your system. It will also help with store stock, and you not getting the correct 'version' The benefits go on and on.
So yes, these work great with Alexa. With most smart devices you introduce to the Alexa system, you have to connect to them with their proprietary app first, then Alexa will pick it up - many times automatically. If not, you manually enter it, after you have established it on the compatible app. This was my first hiccup with these OREIN bulbs, because they had me d/l an app called AiDot. I already have probably 5 different smart apps I have used to set up various other bulbs, so thought to myself, here we go again. To make matters much worse, my phone did not like the app. It would wait 15 seconds or so to respond to key presses. I said to myself, this will not work.
After setting up the first bulb, I went to Alexa, and it did not just pull in the bulb from the other app. BUT, it did 'see' a new bulb, and let me set it up, by using the QR code imprinted on the bulb. Very cool, I thought. Despite the fact I had already named the bulb in the AiDot app, Alexa didn't know anything about that, so I had to name it again. So, not liking that other app, I deleted it from my phone. Then I went to set up the second bulb. Alexa immediately prompted me for the QR code, and I was able to set it up quick as can be directly in the Alexa app. So, this is a bulb that I can set up in Alexa, without first having to set up in a different app. Fantastic! I suppose this works the same with other smart home systems (like Google), but I cannot verify that.
Another feature, that is currently useless for me (but you never know what the future will bring), is that these bulbs supposedly can work off your home network, and once set up can be controlled from inside you house even if you are not connected to the internet. Problem is, Alexa doesn't work when she is not connected to the net, so there is no way to tell your bulb to turn off or on.
Finally, just like all my previous smart bulbs, if these suffer an interruption in power, when the power comes back on, they will turn on, with whatever was the last 'on' setting (color - brightness) - even if they were off when the power went out.
UPDATE: I found there is a setting in the AiDot app that lets you have these power up as off if they were off before they lost power. Cool!
I had to reinstall my AiDot app because Alexa lost track of the bulb after I deleted the app and the only way she would reconnect was to reload the AiDot app. Not so cool!
My overall impression is that 'matter' is a great system to integrate smart homes, and these bulbs work perfectly!
